As a way of understanding how we experience the periphery I modify photographs with gouache paint. I try to really look in the periphery. (It is ironic that I am becoming an impressionist painter.) I realize a couple of things:
About Color....
In the periphery we combine shapes of similar color to one shape. The color represented less will look like colors that are represented more. Color fades towards the periphery. Strangely enough I see that an item is chromatic, but I can't see what exact color it is.
About Light...
Lighter shapes bulge out, darker shapes contract.
