Books: Speciesism and Animal Rights
Some we Love, Some we Hate, Some we Eat
Hal Herzog

This book has been one of my all time favorite recourses on human and animal interactions. The book is composed of short allegories from various people in various situations involving animals, from working in a lab and experimenting on cats, to getting your first dog, to eating steak with your kids, to little boys who hurt ants with magnifying glasses. The author is a some-what progressive philosopher/professor and is NOT vegetarian, which makes it a less bias read. I found this book eye opening, easy to read, and I quote it all the time!
