This is a short poem I wrote one morning on Santa Cruz Island with the help of the local birds whose varying calls inspired the spelling of this poem.
Listen up
To the trees
To the sky
To the sun
To the sparks that eclipse
Little alto tenors elude my eye
Among the dusky branches
They do heer-up-up-up
Wu-eep wu-eep
Chah-lrk chah-lrk
her-uh her-uh-uh-uh-uh-umm
zer-up ze
