So my hummingbird boxes have been up since last Thursday, I haven’t seen any hummingbirds in the flowers yet . I ended up spray painting the boxes bright red, because I had read that bright colors especially red will attract hummingbirds. After the 3rd day with no sign (or way of knowing if they came) I decided to hang a hummingbird feeder along side the hanging box just so I could have some kind of gage as to whether or not the birds had been coming . I hope that they have enjoyed the flowers while I was not watching. The flowers I choose were also bright red and orange, I avoided yellow in fear of attracting bees instead of hummingbirds. Set up for the show is tomorrow and I plan on hanging my flower boxes from the ceiling at eye level for most humans. Along side with this display I will be making a treat with edible flower on them because this will show a joint food between us humans and the hummingbirds. Some edible flowers for humans include: Calendula, carnations, chamomile, lavender, jasmine, and day lilies. My projects main purpose was to give these timy brds a paradise, my balcony is way higher than the ground so the birds could be higher than predators or competition.
