Last weekend my hamster somehow managed to escape his ball in the middle of the night. All of my housemates tore up the entire house trying to find him, with no success. After a day went by, many were starting to lose hope. The next night before going out to a friend's house, I put piles of food out in different spots throughout the house. I even took pictures of them to see if the piles would get disturbed at all. After placing bait out, I took a few moments to harness some of the wisdom that I gained from Barbara Janelle's visit. I meditated for a few minutes and tried to spiritually and emotionally connect with my hamster. I told him that he could take his time exploring wherever he needed to go, but he needed to come back fairly soon for his own safety.
That night, my housemates and I returned home very late, probably 2 or 3 in the morning. This is just the time where Hammy is usually most active, and we walked around the house looking for any signs of him. Sure enough, Hammy was hanging out in plain sight near one of the piles of food I left him in the bathroom. He was huddled up next to the plunger, so we immediately gave him a nice bath and returned him to his cage. Everyone was ecstatic! I don't know if I actually did connect with Hammy that night, or if it was just a coincidence that he was out when we came home. I'd like to think that I had something to do with it. Either way, I'm happy we found that little guy, I don't know how long he would have made it on his own in this harsh, unforgiving world.
